There might be 60 miles per gallon fuel requirements by 2025

There is speculation the White House will require CAFÉ standards to increase to 60 miles per gallon by 2025. Current CAFE standards mandate that car makers hit 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. The average are not for each model produced by an auto maker, however an average of the gas mileage of all models a vehicle maker makes. Emission levels per unit of gas consumed is also part of the formula.

Setting a new standard

Obama ran on the platform for presidency by saying he’d improve energy standards. Fuel standards have regulations already passed saying that by 2016, standards have to go up to 35.5 mpg. According to USA Today ,the White House is going to make an effort to raise them again. This time, the goal may be for automakers to reach an average of 60 mpg by 2025. These standards have not come out yet. CAFÉ standards would not pass until 2011 or 2012. That implies they will go through also.

Picking standards

The gas mileage standards are known as CAFE requirements, or Corporate Average Gas mileage. Every auto and model isn’t expected to hit CAFÉ requirements, states Wikipedia. Each car a manufacturer has on the road is counted in this. It is the average usual gasoline consumption the vehicles have together. The first regulations were passed a long time ago. In fact, it happened in 1975. 1990 was the last time CAFÉ expectations were increased. The requirement was 27.5 miles per gallon then. In 2011, standards will increase to 30.2 miles per gallon.

The law intentions occurring

The law would be used for making automakers follow a certain patter. More electric autos and hybrids would have to be made. Catches always apply. Not every person is going to be able to simply buy a new vehicle. Also, electric and hybrid vehicles aren’t up to certain tasks. A hybrid isn’t able to tow heavy loads or even go into certain job site like a full-sized pickup is needed to do.
