The Miners in Chili are trapped and the world population has watched to see what would happen. There were Chilean miners nevertheless alive. Nobody knew how or when they would be rescued though. Rescue crews and miners got advice from NASA as it went to the site to help. It might take months to obtain them. Drilling a rescue shaft has begun, but it will be slow going.
NASA makes a trip to Chile
The Chilean mine disaster now has National Aeronautics and Space Administration officials. The role of NASA engineers and scientists can be assisting the delivery of necessary supplies to the miners trapped 2,200 feet underground. The Washington Post explains that you will find 33 men within the chamber that has three four inch wide tubes going down to them. One tube pumps in oxygen, one more sends supplies, and the third tube for video conferencing, so miners can communicate with loved ones. The real concern is about the tube. How are they going to get supplies down a four inch tube?
Words of encouragement and advice
The former NASA astronaut, Jerry Linenger, got to talk to the Washington Post. There was a fire in 1997 on the Mir space station that caused Linenger to be the only American Astronaut trapped. There were also two other astronauts there with him. Linenger’s advice to the men was that they need to stay busy, however not get their hopes up. If things do not go also as they hope, the miners might end up with despair and depression. He explained that you should work as a team. There shouldn’t be any one person in charge of everything.
Camp Hope is available
Rescue workers, family members and support staff are in an encampment around the mine called Camp Hope. The mining business hopes forgiveness is within the near future. It is going to go bankrupt soon if this continues. The wages for the trapped miners are no longer being paid.
